Design of a Fiber Optic Assembly

Situation: Develop an autonomous fiber optic delivery system to make a connection between two fiber optic cables in deepwater offshore wells.

Task: Research the possible constraints and environmental conditions downhole and develop a set of hydraulic actuators to complete the connection process.

Action: Developed a hydraulic actuator to move up and down, a hydraulic actuator to rotate, and a hydraulic actuator to lock the tool in place. A centralizer was included in the final design.

Result: Finished third place in the prototype group of our senior design project
